About the Seattle Human-AI Collective

The Seattle Human-AI Collective is a volunteer-run community group dedicated to exploring the intersection of human creativity and artificial intelligence. We are not a corporation, nonprofit, or educational institution. We are a group of curious people who meet regularly to learn, discuss, and share ideas about AI and its impact on society.

Purpose

Our mission is to create an inclusive, in-person space where people of all backgrounds can engage with AI topics in a thoughtful, nuanced way. We aim to bridge the gap between highly technical AI discourse and general public understanding, fostering conversations that are accessible without being superficial.

Organizational Structure

The collective is organized by a small team of volunteer organizers. There is no formal membership structure, hierarchy, or dues. Anyone is welcome to attend our events. Organizers are responsible for selecting topics, securing venues, inviting speakers, and maintaining the community.

Meeting Format

Our events typically follow one of these formats:

  • Discussion Meetups -- Biweekly gatherings centered around a specific topic. Readings or materials are shared in advance, and the group engages in open, moderated discussion.
  • Talks -- Presentations by community members or invited speakers on specific AI subjects, followed by Q&A.
  • Workshops -- Hands-on sessions where participants learn practical AI skills, from prompt engineering to building with open source models.
  • Panels -- Multi-speaker conversations exploring a topic from different perspectives.

Financial Disclosure

Most of our events are free to attend. When there are costs (venue rental, refreshments, materials), we may charge a small fee or accept voluntary contributions. All funds collected are used exclusively to cover event-related expenses. Organizers are not compensated. We do not accept sponsorships that would influence our content or discussions.

Code of Conduct

We are committed to providing a welcoming and respectful environment for all participants. We expect all attendees to:

  • Engage in good-faith discussion and be open to differing viewpoints
  • Treat all participants with respect and courtesy
  • Refrain from harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behavior
  • Respect the privacy of other members and not share personal information without consent
  • Follow venue-specific rules and guidelines

Organizers reserve the right to remove anyone who violates these guidelines from events.

Content Disclaimer

The views expressed at our events and on this website are those of individual speakers and participants, not the collective as a whole. We do not endorse specific products, companies, or political positions. Our discussions are exploratory in nature and should not be taken as professional advice. We encourage participants to do their own research and form their own conclusions.
